The Legend of the Peacock
The temple's name and significance are tied to a captivating legend. It is said that a peacock (mayura in Sanskrit) worshipped Lord Shiva at this site, giving the temple and the town their names. The peacock is believed to have been blessed by Lord Shiva and attained salvation here.
