The Legend of King Nala
The temple is closely associated with the legend of King Nala from the Mahabharata. It is believed that King Nala was cured of his afflictions caused by Saturn (Shani) at this very site. The name 'Thirunallar' is derived from 'Thiru' (holy) and 'Nala' (King Nala).
Architectural Marvel
The temple showcases exquisite Dravidian architecture, featuring:
- A majestic five-tiered rajagopuram (main tower)
- Intricate stone carvings depicting various deities and mythological scenes
- Spacious mandapams (halls) with beautifully carved pillars

The Sacred Tank
The temple complex includes a holy tank called 'Nala Theertham', where it is believed that King Nala took a dip to rid himself of his afflictions. Devotees consider taking a bath in this tank highly auspicious.
